This is a mindset rule. I don’t care what position you hold, CEO, CFO, Colonel, or President, eventually you will not be in that position. You are not a gift to those you lead. You need to feel honored and privileged that you have the opportunity to lead them.

It is an Honor and Privilege to Lead Others.  Act Like It.

Officers Eat Last #60

You are Lucky to have them as Employees

This rule reminds me why I created the Officers Eat Last rules in the first place.  When you begin to hire employees it is easy to begin to think that they are lucky to have you as their boss.  You start to think about how much you pay your employees.  You start think about how you do everything you can to respect them and their time.  This mindset will start to creep into your brain.  Yes, you think, your employees are extremely lucky to work for you, but this is the absolute opposite of how you should behave.  The proper mindset is that you are lucky to have them as employees.

Drive Productivity and Teamwork

You need to communicate to your employees that it is your honor and privilege to have them as employees.  Tell them you are grateful for their work, energy, and effort.  You have to communicate this in a genuine and sincere way.  If you can do this right, it will drive a positive culture and team atmosphere for your small business.  It will drive productivity.
